Chañaral: Puerto con historia

Ubicado cerca del Parque Nacional Pan de Azúcar, pareciera una ciudad que duerme, pero está llena de centenarias casonas que esconden historia.

Chañaral es un antiguo puerto junto al mar. Está llena de centenarias casonas y miradores sobre playas de arenas blancas que anticipan la potencia del Parque Nacional Pan de Azúcar.

Poblada el siglo XVII por el auge de la minería, creció tras el descubrimiento de la mina El Salado que requirió la construcción de un pequeño puerto.

A 165 kilómetros al noroeste de Copiapó, Chañaral es una ciudad pequeña y singular, clave para conocer las mejores playas y parques de la región.

Si es el momento de comer, se recomienda la caleta, ubicada en la entrada sur. Y para refrescarse con un baño, las playas Caleuche, Hippie y Las Gaviotas. El viaje para conocer el Parque Nacional Pan de Azúcar resultará siempre inolvidable.

Museo de Historia Natural

Con una completa colección que permite entender la antiquísima cultura Huentelauquén, que habría habitado estas tierras al menos 10 mil años atrás. Buin 818, Teléfono (52) 480042

Iglesia Parroquial

Construida en 1864. Su estructura es de madera, cañas de Guayaquil y estuco de barro, arena y cal. Fue declarada Monumento Nacional en 1985 junto a la casona contigua, la Casa Molina, ícono de las épocas de bonanza, a un costado de la Plaza de Armas.

Faro del Milenio

Inaugurado el año 2000 en la cima de un monte que domina la ciudad, esta edificación de cobre permite observar todo el litoral de Chañaral.

Porto Fino

Es el gran spot de los surfistas locales, con una de las mejores olas derechas del país. Se ubica a 25 kilómetros al sur, con algunas casas y áreas de camping en medio del paisaje desértico, y pequeñas piscinas que se arman entre los roqueríos. Hay fecha internacional de surf cada verano.
